Actors, Directors, Musicians

The need for actors, directors, and musicians seems pretty obvious. But in a community theater where these positions are not paid, there is always room for more. Scared to take on a whole show? We often have one-acts in the spring, where you can try your hand without a major commitment.

The only thing you really need is the time to commit to a few rehearsals, and a desire to be on stage.

Auditions are usually held five to six weeks before the show, with rehearsals four nights a week. Auditioners read from the script; they are not required to memorize for auditions. For musicals, auditioners are expected to sing, but may not be required to do more than an impromptu rendering of “Happy Birthday” or some other well-known song.

Set Builders, Hair and Makeup, Lighting and Sound, Backstage Help

If you’re not into the limelight, but you’re handy with a hammer, a screwdriver, a hairbrush or a makeup brush, or even if you can just help move furniture between acts or push the “Play” and “Stop” buttons on the tape machine, your talents are useful to us. And except for performance nights, you can usually work on your own schedule, when you have free time.

Running the House

Volunteers are always needed to help take tickets, seat people, and serve refreshments during the show. And they usually get to see the show that night for free!

Building and Grounds

The theater and grounds are always in need of repair, painting, or other general maintenance. If you’re handy with plumbing, electricity, or mowing, your help is needed. We are also looking for people to help with the landscaping, and to plant flowers and shrubs.

Administration and Fundraising

Live theater requires money; more money than can be raised through simple ticket sales. This shortfall is usually made up through grants and from funds raised from the public. If you are good at talking to people, or if you understand how and where to write for grants and foundation funding, your help is needed.
